Oct 29, Colombo: Ministry of Agriculture of Sri Lanka says the Paddy Marketing Board (PMB) has a reserve of 7,070 metric tons of paddy.
The Ministry of Sri Lanka assured that there is no risk of a shortage of rice in the future as there are sufficient stocks in the country.
The Ministry of Agriculture of Sri Lanka also said considering the market fluctuations in the price of rice in the market, if necessary to control the increase in the price, the reserves of the Paddy Marketing Board will be converted into rice.
However, the Ministry of Agriculture of Sri Lanka stated that it has been able to control the rise in the price of rice in the market due to the importation of rice and the receipt of rice stocks from other countries as aid.
Accordingly, there are stocks of rice in warehouses owned by the Food Commissioner’s Department, including 1,000 metric tons of rice donated by Myanmar.
In addition, between 5,000 and 10,000 metric tons of essential food items received under the World Food Program are also reported to be in the warehouses owned by the Food Commissioner’s Department of Sri Lanka.
