Cambodia receives $829 million from cashew exports in nine months, down more than 16%
Release Time: 2023-10-16

In the first nine months of 2023, Cambodia produced 639,000 metric tonnes of raw cashew nuts, of which 613,200 metric tonnes were exported to Vietnam worth $829 million, a decrease of 16.3% compared to the same period in 2022.

Uon Siloth, President of the Cambodian Cashew Association, told local news on Monday, October 16, that the Cambodian Cashew Association had lowered its forecast for Cambodian cashew yields since the beginning of the year because farmers have cut down some cashews due to climate change, which is difficult for them to maintain.

On the other hand, competition from local enterprises, despite their low working capital, seems to be recovering after the national policy on cashews, which makes local enterprises compete to buy from exports.

The price of dried cashew nuts is $1,658 per ton. September: Dried seeds cost 7,000–7,500 riel per kilogramme.

The recipients of Cambodia’s cashew nuts are Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, Russia, China, Hong Kong, France, Korea, Turkey and Bangladesh.

According to Uon Siloth, through the Ministry of Commerce’s efforts to find overseas markets, his association team recently attended the Gwangju Food Fair 2023 in Korea to promote Cambodia’s cashew potential.

The President of the Cambodian Cashew Association confirmed that this is another new market for local enterprises, and from the 4th to the 15th of next month, the Cashew Association is planning to hold an exhibition in Long Beach, USA, to expand new markets for local enterprises.
