Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen on December 10 invited members of the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) to explore investment opportunities in the Kingdom’s agriculture sector, especially the agro-processing of raw products such as rice, cashew nuts and cassava.

Before departing for Türkiye, Mr Hun Sen received a courtesy visit from the QIA delegation led by Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al Thani, Qatar Minister of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) to discuss the possibility of strengthening the economic cooperation between two countries.

During the discussion, Mr Hun Sen expressed satisfaction with meeting the MOCI Minister and the QIA delegation.

He told the delegation about his fruitful meeting with the Qatar Prime Minister, which highlighted the potential and emerging opportunities in Cambodia’s economy and investment environment.

He underlined Cambodia’s readiness to attract foreign investments, particularly in sectors such as agriculture and agro-processing while also discussing the favourable conditions available for QIA’s involvement in these areas.

“Cambodia’s agriculture has huge potential, especially rice, cashew nuts, cassava and many other raw products, providing great opportunities for Qatari businessmen who invest in the agro-processing factory for export to other countries in the region and the world.”

In an effort to strengthen and expand bilateral cooperation, Mr Hun Sen pointed out two important agreements which could promote trade and investment interaction between the two nations.

Hun Sen said that Cambodia and Qatar should establish an agreement on the Promotion and Protection of Reciprocal Investments and an agreement on Economic, Commercial and Technical Cooperation as soon as possible.

According to the Senate announcement, the MOCI Minister expressed commitment to working closely with the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) to expedite the signing of the two agreements as suggested by Mr Hun Sen.
